Talks and courses

Outreach in the world of caricature: workshops, lectures, seminars…

You like caricature, and you’ve always liked it.

In fact, you had yourself drawn by the seashore more years ago than you’d care to admit.

You used to clip pages from the newspaper, right at the living room table, just to keep those special drawings that talked about politics, culture, and sports. You still have them. You even bought a few books from the seventies at that market.

Because you like caricature, and you’ve always liked it.

Right next to your house, they’ve organized something about the subject. A talk, it seems. And you go, of course, you live right around the corner. You’re surprised to hear theoretical concepts (wait, wasn’t this a natural gift or something?), historical tidbits (how long has caricature even existed?), styles and interpretations (are there really that many artists in the world?), and other ideas you had never even considered. Time flies by, and even though you didn’t know what to expect, your mind is racing with possibilities you didn’t even know existed just a few minutes ago.

Yes, I was the speaker. I’ve always been interested in the teaching and outreach of caricature, and while you might be familiar with my work, you might not know everything else: I’ve spent many years bringing this fascinating discipline to life through talks, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and roundtables. For the general public as well as industry professionals.

I’ve been fortunate to speak about the world of caricature in many places: Fundación Casa de México en España, the National Library, Serrería Belga, UDIT, the Ibero-American Pavilion at the Madrid Book Fair, the Lo Memefest festival, the Nerja Museum, CineCiutat, Fundación Diario Madrid… the list is huge and broad, and I don’t want to forget all the hotels, schools, high schools, senior centers, and companies that have brought me in.

Much of my outreach work is linked to the Instituto Quevedo de las Artes del Humor, as they have been the driving force behind many talks and workshops of all kinds, in addition to my online course (which you can access by clicking HERE). A special thank you, always, for all their warmth and great work over the years.

The pedagogy of caricature is one of my passions, so I’ll be delighted to discuss what you have in mind and how we can make it happen.

My name is David García Vivancos, and I have taught courses on the world of caricature from the University of Alcalá to Guiyang, in China.
